Your Bible Study

As a young man I understood that Jesus took the bullet meant for me. I was captured. I wanted to know more, reading the Bible, Yes, but the words would stream past and not stay for very long.

2 Tim. 2:15    Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

If you love the LORD, there is a way to be closer to Him, and this comes with his promise of truth and freedom.

Any Bible study, in the end, rewards the one doing the study. Jesus did not say, "go, look for others to show you the meaning of my words." He expects us to dig in, and when doing this, He gives us this promise.

John 8:31-32    Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him , If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I started my Bible study over 50 years ago, following a simple plan. The first chapter of the book of Proverbs lists promises: that if a man will continue in the book of Proverbs, he can expect wisdom. When I stumbled onto this, I took hold of this promise with white knuckles. As I went through the Proverbs verse by verse, I would find a thought. I would then take a 3-by-5 card and write the thought as the heading on the card. I then wrote out the whole verse on the card. While doing this, I would recognize another thought; I’d get another card, write the new heading, then write out the verse again. This would continue until I had milked all I was able to discern from the verse. It was slow going. There were no computers back then. I don’t know how long it took me to go through the book of Proverbs and also the book of Ecclesiastes. As I did, I Eventually moved everything to a book. I was also reading the other books of the Bible at the same time; these also found their way into the mainstudy. Over the years, work, school and family slowed the effort. The work has picked up now that I’m retired.

Fast forward: the process is a lot easier today. On a computer, you can cut and paste a verse, organize verses and subjects in a word processor, and as you do this, if you read the verse each time that you make a new heading, it works just fine.

When I put all of this study into a computer, because I had the foundation of going through it all before, I could see more in the verses now than when I was young. For a very long time, I have been in His Word. I’m still trying to get to the end of this study, but each passing year the end keeps moving. The more I think I know, the more I realize how little I actually do. These steps that I still use work. I am talking about work. But with this work, Jesus gives us a promise: “then are ye my disciples indeed.

Being a Disciple of Jesus is so much more than just being saved.

When you get a number of verses under a given heading, you will want to organize them in subheadings. See my mainstudy below. A good place to start your study is with the salvation verses (John 3:16-18, Isaiah 1:18, Romans 10:9-10), then the Gospel of John, or maybe the Proverbs.

I include here a copy of the King James Bible. This plain text King James Bible is easy to search, copy and paste.

I include my current study here; you are welcome to use it, but please don’t pass up making your own study! That is where the real reward is. The new mainstudy.pdf file is ~4.3 MB.

Some who make it into the Kingdom of God go through the door (Jesus), look around for a nice comfy place to sit down, and well, that’s the end of the matter.

When I was young, I was lied to (I was raised a Jehovah's Witness). Now I’m not interested in anyone telling me what to believe. I went about finding out for myself what the Bible really says. If you take hold of the Bible and mean to get to the truth of God's word ("seek you shall find"), you will.

I include two studies, “Falling away” and “Every idle word”. Both of these studies step on toes; I’m sorry, but the toes were out there to be stepped on. Both of these studies opened up to me in the last few years. Look at the “Every Idle Word” study first; it is absolutely important for every Christian. As for “Falling Away”, It brings me a great deal of concern.

Look at the studies; see what you think.

The “Every Idle Word” study is about the importance of our words.

The “Falling away” study is about the new versions of the Bible.
